SO if you wish to play any kind of Divx encoded files you will have to 'trans-code' them utilizing a program like 'Handbrake' or 'Any Video clip Converter' which can be MY preferred (freeware) and change it out into any codec the gamer DOES understand. I has been surprised to locate this out as my own LG HIGH DEFINITION TV WILL PLAY files with the Divx document extension. Go figure! SO FAR this is the ONLY kind of video file I've run into that won't play. (Evidently LG didn't wish to pay the licensing payment to Divx)

FINAL UP-DATE 9-20-11 Just wished to say this LG player is still going powerful and plays the new Blu Ray Star Conflicts set with out issue or glitch. For the money I'm convinced it is a real bargain. My seventy eight year father continues to be happily actively playing Xvids, MKV and H264 documents easily like he has been doing it all his life and has not once arrived at me for any help using a disc or file that won't load. I purchased this identical player with regard to my lady friend and the lady gives me only glowing reports. As with all electronics I am certain at some point it will be obsolete, but for the present time it is a solid competitor and I the stand by position my complete review. Cheers! Marty Gillis.
